college Choices - Final Update
April 18th 2009 23:02
My son will be graduating from high school in June. I've posted two articles (see POPULAR POSTS to the right) about the process of visiting and choosing a college, and thought I'd update now that he's made a decision.
He applied to several schools: Baylor, LeTourneau, TCU, and Texas A&M-Commerce. He received substantial scholarship offers from each of them, but not enough from the first three to make much of a dent in the total cost of attending. Texas A&M-Commerce, however, accepted him into their Honors College, which provides FULL tuition and expenses (room & board and books). He also auditioned for the choir and was offered $500 for tuition plus $500 housing allowance per semester, even though he won't be a music major. He has accepted these offers, because they result in a completely free education. He will be double majoring - engineering and math.
Now, he's informed me that he just might try out as a walk-on for the football team. I screamed, "NO!" I just don't think he can handle a doulbe major - in two difficult and time consuming fields - and choir, and football. There is just NO WAY! I suggested he try intramural sports instead.
Well, anyway - decision made. And I'm really happy about it not costing us anything! Now I can put back extra for kids #3 and #4. My daughter (#4) will be starting high school in the fall - so now I'm concentrating on helping her plan out her high school courses to best suit her desire to be a veterinarian. Here we go again!

What are intermural sports? It sounds very gay.
