Own a Piece of America
I posted about this on another blog recently, but really felt it need to be posted here as well.
Did you know you could own a deed to the United States? Well, this company - Own a Piece of America - sells teeny, tiny pieces of land in all 50 states. You can own land in one state, or all 50 - it's very affordable. (And a really neat idea, wish I'd thought of it!)
The "plots" of land are only 1 square inch in size, but you get a real deed. Depending on the quality of the deed you want, you can own a piece of land in each of the 50 states for as little as $19.95. (The nicer looking deeds with frames or plaques are up to $49.95 - not bad, less than $10 per state!) If you'd like a piece of land in only one state, it's less than $4 - again, depending on the quality of the printed deed.
At first, I thought this was kind of nuts. Who'd want a deed to a piece of land only 1 inch square? But, it is a kind of neat idea - especially as a gift for that hard to buy for person - you know - the one who has everything. (Now I guess I'll need to post this on Simple Gift Guide, as well!)
So, for the true American, the most patriotic person you know, or just someone who thinks they have everything, consider giving them a deed to the United States. It makes for a good gag gift anyway - much better than a star named after them - and probably much easier to locate on a map!
