Health Care Concerns - Write Your Congressman

As anyone who has read any of my previous posts will know, I am concerned about health care reform. I am FOR a single-payer program. I INSIST upon reform of some meaningful kind SOON.
Needless to say, I'm a Democrat. Some would call me a Liberal - but I don't always fit that mold.
I urge each of you to contact your representatives to voice YOUR opinion about this issue (even if it doesn't agree with mine!) This is the most recent message I sent to MY representative, The Honorable Louie Gohmert (a Republican). His health care reform plan calls for each family to maintain a health savings account (HSA) to pay for doctor visits, and smaller health care costs. He also wants everyone to have a catastrophic health plan to cover the larger bills. While I agree with some of the principles outlined in his plan, I don't think it's quite enough. Heres my letter:
I am concerned about health care reform. I've read about your plan on your website, and I don't really think it fully addresses the issue. Do you really think that HSA's will help people who have what the insurance companies call "uninsurable conditions," or those who cannot afford the high premiums insurance companies charge?
Your plan outline states that everyone will be required to have both an HSA and a catastrophic health insurance plan. Will this cost less than current insurance premiums (which are already too expensive, if you can even get a policy.)
Personally, I'm all for a single-payer plan. I understand that we will still be paying for this through taxes, but it seems the most fair and reasonable way to solve the problems we have today. With a single payer plan, we won't have to worry about the profit-hungry insurance companies. If it's set up properly, we will still be able to choose our own doctors and all the other pros of the plan you describe (just as older citizens are able to do with Medicare.) In addition, by going to a singl-payer program, so much of the waste and excessive costs will be eliminated. Everyone will have equal access to quality health care, prescriptions, and treatments as determined medically necessary by their doctors.
All this hype about single-payer being socialism is, just that, hype. No one complains about Medicare being socialism, or the Veterans Health Administration. No one complains about Social Security, public schools or publicly funded law enforcement or fire departments. All of these things are social services. They all, including health care for all U. S. citizens, are necessary programs that should be publicly funded and administered equally to all.
Be sure to write your representative and let him or her know how YOU feel about health care reform.
