Lucky Kitty

April 17th 2009 22:43
My daughter and her friends were walking down the road a few weeks ago. They saw a lumpy pillowcase near the road, and realized it was moving. They went over to investigate, and heard mewing. Inside the pillowcase, were two small cats. They'd been mistreated (besides being tied up in a pillowcase and dumped on a country road) - hair cut, paint or nail polish on them, etc.

The friends took one of the cats home, and my daughter took the other. She named it Lucky, and we took it to the vet to be sure it was healthy. Other than a minor case of ear mites, the cat is fine, and has now had shots and is scheduled to be spayed next week.

Lucky - cat found tied in pillow case by side of road
This adorable kitty was found tied in a pillowcase by the side of the road.

Because we already had a cat at home, and not the most friendly one, we had to keep Lucky isolated for a couple of weeks. Roxi, the other cat, wasn't too keen on the idea of sharing her home and family with a stranger. She hissed and growled every time she smelled Lucky's scent on any of us. Lucky, however, was not the least bit aggressive when she saw or smelled Roxi.

After a few days, Roxi got more curious about Lucky, and tried to see her when we'd let her out of the room she was secluded in. We gradually let Lucky out more and more. At first, Roxi would hiss and growl when she saw her, but after a week or so, she got less aggressive.

Now, the two cats are good friends. They eat out of the same dishes, use the same litterbox, and even sleep on the same bed. They "play" fight, and chase each other all over the house, but rarely ever hiss at each other.

I still can't believe that anyone would be so cruel to a cat or any other animal. If you don't want an animal, take it to the animal shelter. Even if it gets put down, that's much more humane than tying it in a pillowcase and dropping it alongside the road.
