Blogging American - Potpourri

Obama's latest

April 12th 2008 20:11
So - what do you think about the latest Obama troubles? I was hearing about it all over the news - but not really hearing what it was he had done, just what others had to say about it. Finally, I heard that I could read about it on a blog - at Huffington Post. I found the blog, read it and the transcript of what Obama had actually said, and thought ,"hmmm."

My first reaction was, "what is the big deal - most of what he said is pretty truthful." Honestly, though not from Pennsylvania, I know of a lot of Americans who feel "bitter" about the government. And, at first glance, it seemed as if he was giving this information to people who might be volunteering to work for his campaign - calling people to get them out to vote, etc.

Then I read it (the transcript - not the blog) again, and I could see how it could be taken as "elitist" as some of the media was claiming. Afterall, the people to whom he was talking were quite wealthy, while those about whom he was talking were generally not (wealthy, that is). So, while what he was saying was basically true, it was the way in which he said it that was the problem.

I still think some of the media have kind of blown it out of proportion. But, these are the same ones who have been favoring him for months, so maybe it's about time. What do you think?

I think that, at the beginning, the media, like everyone else, wanted to believe in what he said. All this talk about hope and change. People fell in love with his rhetoric instead of really looking into what he says. Personally, I think this guy is a bit naive. It's easier to say what he says than to actually do it. In my opinion, this naivete and innocence is what draws people to him.

Here's an article from the Washington Post (written back in February) that explains what I mean.
