"MOM! Don't read my mail!!!"
November 6th 2008 02:55
After all the college searching - my son finally applied to four (I think). He still gets mailings from all sorts of schools - I guess because of his high SAT scores and being registered on scholarship search sites. Anyway - today he got mail from one of the colleges he'd applied to, and I - being the nosey mom that I am - opened it. Later he sent me a text message asking me to check on the application fee we'd sent to another school, because it had not posted a month after we'd sent it. I called the school and found out that it had just posted today (don't know why the delay) and they told me they'd go ahead and post his acceptance, since that was all they were waiting on. I sent him a reply text message to tell him it was all straightened out, and that they'd gone ahead and accepted him. I also mentioned that he'd received an acceptance letter from one of the other schools.
He called me and said, "MOM! Don't read my mail!!!" He went on to explain that since he knew he wasn't going to play football or anything like that, the acceptance letters were the highlight of his day - and if wasn't fair for me to open them and spoil it for him. I guess he's right. But they're the highlight of my day too! I did promise not to open any more of his mail, though. I'll just have to wait for him to get home each day to open it and share his excitement with me.
He has been accepted to all four schools to which he applied. One has already offered him nearly $25,000 per year in scholarship money! We're still waiting for the scholarship offers from the rest. He took the ACT a couple weeks ago, and retook the SAT last week. (1300 wasn't high enough for him!) I guess I'm not allowed to check on the scores either!
