Voting in Texas
March 4th 2008 19:53
I'm excited about voting, as I've never been in my adult life. I will be the first to admit that I've never really cared much about primaries. I've always been content with whoever was the frontrunner, but NOT this time! I don't like to associate myself with labels; I don't really consider myself a "Democrat;" I prefer to think of myself as an "AMERICAN!"
This time around, however, I am determined that a Democrat win the presidency - because I think it is best for our country. We can't handle eight more years of the same.
If all the original Democratic candidates were still in the running, I might not be supporting Hillary Clinton. Of the two who have made it as far as the Texas primary, however, I fully support Hillary! I'll admit - Clinton and Obama are really close on most of the issues.
The issue I am most concerned with, at this time, is healthcare. Obama's plan is OK. But Clinton's plan is better.
As far as the other issues go, I feel she has more detailed plans, and I feel more confident in the answers she has given about them. She goes into more detail in her explanations. He usually says, "I agree with Hillary."
What really excites me is that Texas has a primary AND a caucus! I don't know if this has always been so (I've never heard of it before this election.)
Because I've never participated in a caucus before, I'm excited about the opportunity to participate in something new. I'm not really sure what to expect, but this is what I've found so far...
* Anyone can participate, as long as they have voted in the primary
* Texas has a certain number of delegates based on the primary (ballot)
* Texas has MORE delegates based on the caucus
* If you want to participate in the caucus - be at the polling center at the end of voting (7 pm most places)
Other than that - I don't have a clue about what will be going on. I'll post more about the PROCESS tonight or tomorrow.
If you live in Texas, and you support Hillary Clinton (or are serious about whomever you support), be sure to participate in both the primary AND the caucus!
Happy voting.
